Internal spaces can have a variety of uses and, depending on these, follow a series of different rules regarding lighting. First of all we find the lighting of the house, which must take into account both the qualitative aspect for the well-being of everyday life and personal taste. The most used environment is undoubtedly the living area, a space that involves carrying out various functions that the light must adequately reflect. Here, in fact, we find both the dining table, which requires direct light produced for example by a pendant lamp, and the sofa area, which requires a softer atmosphere that can be achieved with floor or table lamps.
General light should be provided in the kitchen, provided by a classic ceiling lamp or a more modern system of track spotlights, together with accent light often provided by linear profiles under the wall unit. In the bathroom you need to pay attention above all to the mirror area, for example by positioning wall lights above or on the sides of the mirror, projecting the light on the face without dazzling. Finally, in the bedroom, the most intimate room of the house, general lighting is usually provided combined with accent lighting on the bedside tables, created using traditional lamps or adjustable clamp lamps, ideal for reading, or even with small suspensions.
Then there are spaces which, unlike the house, see the passage of a large number of people and have a very specific purpose, such as sales outlets. Here light takes on a different meaning and becomes a means through which the goods on display are enhanced. Depending on the structure of the room and the type of product you intend to sell, recessed spotlights can be combined in the false ceiling, walls or shelves, or flexible systems with track projectors can be provided. The latter represent the most widespread solution since they are ideal for illuminating garments both from above and from the side at the same time, creating soft shadows. The illumination levels are quite high with the intention of attracting the eye and attention of the end customer.
There are also places where the light must be dosed rather precisely and where the qualitative aspect comes first, with a strong inclination towards visual comfort. We are talking, for example, about offices or workplaces in general, which are also subject to dedicated regulations. In fact, specific visual tasks are carried out on the desks, such as reading and writing, often with the use of video terminals, which require adequate levels of lighting to be carried out, all without tiring the eyes. Office lamps are in fact characterized by particular anti-glare screens and must be positioned accurately so as not to directly interfere with the visual range of those sitting at the workstation.
Linear, ceiling or suspended lamps can be used, with direct or indirect emission, combined with desk lamps that can be managed directly by the person using them. Finally, there are environments that use light to create a characteristic feature, such as bars or restaurants. Here the objective is to create an atmosphere that reflects the type and tone of the venue itself as much as possible. Whether it is a meeting place for a large number of people or a more refined place suitable for a few, the light must communicate the level of confidentiality or formality that distinguishes it. If we take as an example a bar or restaurant with tables illuminated by warm, soft light, perhaps created with the use of table lamps or dimly lit suspensions, we immediately understand that we are in a place that favors the most intimate conversation. If, however, we find ourselves in a room with a colder and brighter light, created for example with spotlights or wall lamps, we can sense that we are entering a more convivial context. Depending on the type of space, therefore, adequate lighting must be created that can enhance it and make it properly usable by those who frequent it.
